“Shakespearience”An Elizabethan Project (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) Mission: As you stroll one evening, you accidentally walk through a wrinkle in time and find yourself transcended to a different time in history. You have been transported backward in time over four hundred years to Medieval England during the time of the Black Plague, feudal systems, and Shakespeare. You use all of your senses: taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing to learn as much about medieval England as you can. After all, you are studying Medieval England in Global and reading Shakespeare in English. You will be able to share your experiences with your family, peers, and teachers. The specifics are included in this informational handout.
Requirements: All students will be reading and discussing the Shakespearian play, Romeo and Juliet. They will be studying the life and times of William Shakespeare and medieval Life in order to have an appreciation for the life and times of Elizabethan England. Students will be assigned to teams or working on their own on different areas of the Elizabethan life such as music, art, performances, the food, and language of the time, etc. All students will be required to complete a project on such topics as: actors/actresses, music and dancing, costumes, mimes, jugglers, etc. Students will be asked to write poems, create coats of arms, and study Shakespeare in addition to reading Romeo and Juliet.
Grading: You will be graded on each part of the project. A rubric will be attached to the last page of this handout and will include classroom on-task behavior, authenticity of information, well-written information, creativity, and a quality presentation.
Timeline: At the top of each of the following brainstorming sections, you will have a place to put the due date for each assignment. Stay on task and ask for help when you need it. Make sure you are working cooperatively with your team if you are working with a team. You will each be graded separately. Periodically, progress checks will be given to ensure your success. Do not let yourself and/or your team down.
Resources: You may use any and all resources. We will be using the Internet, library resources, and videos for ideas. Project Night: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 7:00-8:30
